A Big Week for Sam

Sam will have two procedures this week. Prayers all goes well, and we get some fixable answers to his GI concerns.

Tomorrow he will have a colonoscopy, endoscopy, and barium enema. Doing a bowel cleanout on a seven-year-old that is still in diapers is “super fun”, but we have survived so far. ; ) We are looking forward to some long-awaited answers to questions.

On Wednesday, he will have his trach closure!!! As long as all goes well, he will only have to spend one night in the hospital. Originally, this was scheduled for August 31st. We were pretty bummed by this because we had the expectation Sam would be able to swim this summer. High hopes, low expectations. I purposely didn’t post about this hoping and praying they would be able to get him in sooner. Yes, it’s bummer he has to be sedated two times in one week, but I think we would all agree it will be well worth it in the end.

Not having to have a death grip on his arm while he takes a bath and being able to swim will be well worth it. People have asked how things are going, and they are going great, and Sam is still doing most of his breathing through his neck. Giving him a bath has been even harder because without the trach there is not barrier to the hole in his airway. This means it’s a lot easier for him to get water in his lungs. Not good.

It sure is crazy how times flies. The end of another school came, and another summer has begun.

Prayers for answers and a smooth recovery for Sam this week.
